Location
Leon is a municipality of rich culture and historic past, located in the eastern side of Panay Island and in the southwestern part of the Province of Iloilo. It is bounded on the north by Municipality of Alimodian, on the east by Municipality of San Miguel, on the south by Municipality of Tigbauan, and Municipality of Tubungan and Municipality of San Remegio, Province of Antique on the west. It is geographically located at 10º 45” to 10º 54” north latitude and 122º 13’ to 122º 25” east longitude.

Topography
The municipality of Leon has a terrain ranging from plain to hilly and mountainous. As a matter of fact, the barangays located on eastern, western and central portion of the municipality were rolling and hilly and areas towards the borders of the municipalities of Alimodian and Tubungan and Province of Antique were mountainous. On the other hand, Barangay Omambong which is located on the south western is the only plain area in the municipality.
The lowest elevation is 50 meters above sea level specifically located from Barangay Omambong to Barangay Poblacion along Sibalom River while the highest elevation can be found within the timberland specifically located at Sitio Igsuming of Barangay Danao. It has an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level.

Political Subdivision
A 2nd class municipality and belong to 2nd Congressional District of Iloilo. It is approximately 28 kilometers from the city of Iloilo. The 85 barangays divided into 9 zones. Each zone comprises of 9-12 barangays. Zone 2 and 5 includes 12 barangays, Zone 3, 4 & 6 composed of 11 barangays, Zone 8 has 10 barangays and the Zone 7 comprises of only 9 barangays along with Zone 9-1.
Generally, during municipal activities tied up into 8 cluster zone in which Barangay Poblacion, the biggest and the only urban barangay joined with the Zone 9.

Soil
Leon is generally an agriculture area and soil is fertile and suitable to almost all types of agricultural crops. Leon has three major soil types in the municipality, namely the Alimodian, Sta Rita and Umingan soil series – as retrieved from Bureau of Soils and Water Management. The municipality’s soil type is consisting of Alimodian Soils, undifferentiated, Alimodian Clay Loam, Alimodian Silt Loam. Sta. Rita Clay and Umingan Fine Sand Loam.
The Alimodian clay loam is the dominant soil type covering 13,087.25 hectares or 79.81% that covers the entire municipality. The second dominant soil type is the Alimodian Soils, undifferentiated, with 2,555.05 has. or 15.58% located on the timberland areas covering the Barangays Bobon, Bucari, Cagay, Camandag and Danao.
The third soil type is the Umingan Fine Sand Loam located in four barangays ground in the eastern part comprise of Barangays Tuog, Nagbangi, Lanag & Buga and five Barangays in the southern portion consisting Barangays Agboy Norte, Agboy Sur, Anonang, Siol Norte and Siol Sur, covering 599.49 has. or 3.66%.
The Sta. Rita Clay is the fourth soil type which is dominant in southern portion of the municipality. This is prominent in Barangay Agboy Sur, Buenavista and Omambong covering an area of 131.76 has or 0.80%.
The smallest is the Alimodian Silt Loam, covering only 23.92 hectares or 0.15% of the total area. This can locate in Barangays Buenavista and Omambong.
Climate & Rainfall
The climate in the municipality is Type I with distinct wet and dry season. Wet season occur during the months of June to November while dry season is in the months of December to May.
It has varied temperature depending on the altitude. The temperature in the upland particularly in Barangay Bucari is 6 to 7 degrees centigrade lower than the temperature in the lowland which ranges from 25.9 to 29.0 degrees centigrade. With this, the municipality is considered as the Summer Capital of the Province of Iloilo due to its cold climate particularly in Bucari area.
Rainfall reached field capacity in the months of May, November, December and January while full buns were reached in the months of June and July. Heavy rainfall is normally observed in the months of August to October. Although there is some precipitation in the months of March to April but water droplets would not be enough for the lands to be plowed. Typhoons normally occur during the months of June to December. According to the data of PAG-ASA, there are about 4 to 7 typhoons which entered the area of responsibility of Iloilo in the year 1994 to 1995.
